What November is actually like
Days sit in the low sixties, which in Rome means walking weather, and the low autumn sun does the city’s ochre walls a favor no summer light can match. The Vatican Museums and the Colosseum, ordeals of queuing in July, become morning strolls. This is also when the Roman table turns: carciofi arrive, the first white truffles reach the menus, and the long lunch reclaims its place.
It is not high-season Rome with a discount; it is a different, slower register of the city. The piazzas belong to locals after dark, reservations come easily, and the grand hotels have the patience for you that August never allows.
What to know before you book
November is statistically Rome’s rainiest month. The rain comes in spells rather than lost days, but pack for it and plan one or two indoor mornings, which is hardly a punishment in a city with this many museums. The calendar matters at both ends: rates slide from early November and stay low until the Christmas holiday swing begins around December 20.
